ローンボウルズは、芝生の上で、合成樹脂でできた偏心球をころがしてジャック（目標球）に近づけることを２チームで競うゲームで、シングルス（１人：１人），ペアーズ（２人：２人），トリプルズ（３人：３人），フォアーズ（４人：４人）の４種類があります。ゲームは、約40m四方の専用コート（グリーン）で行われます。グリーンは、6m弱×40mの長方形に6または7つのリンクに等分して使用され、ひとつのリンク上で、ひとつの競技が行われます。ボウルは偏心球なので、スピードが遅くなるにつれ、大きなカーブを描きながら転がります。ボウルが描くカーブと芝の状態を予測しながら、できるだけジャックに近づけて停止させることに、難しさと面白さがあります。

Lawn bowls is a sport where the objective is for 2 teams to roll synthetic resin biased bowls across a lawn so that they stop close to a jack, or target ball as much closer as possible than the opponent team. Games are played on a special court (bowling green), of which each side is approximately 40 metres long. The bowling green is divided into six or seven rectangular rinks with an area of little less than 6 by 40 metres and a single event is held on each rink. There are 4 kinds of event such as Singles (1:1), Pairs (2:2), Triples (3:3) and Fours (4:4). Since the bowls are biased, they roll in a curve as they lose speed. Players face the difficult but exciting challenge of rolling bowls so that they stop as close to the jack as possible while anticipating how the bowl will curve and assessing lawn conditions.
